Linux sync Command

Linux Command Manual

The Linux sync command is used for data synchronization and is typically used when shutting down a Linux system.

In a Linux system, data intended to be written to the hard disk may, for efficiency reasons, be temporarily stored in a filesystem buffer. This buffer is a memory space. If the data to be written to the hard disk is stored in this buffer and the system experiences an abrupt power loss, the data could be lost. The sync command forces the data stored in the buffer to be written to the hard disk.
