Java atan() Method

Java Number Class


The atan() method is used to return the arc tangent of a specified double type parameter.

Syntax

double atan(double d)

Parameters

Return Value

Returns the arc tangent of the specified double type parameter.

Example

public class Test{ 
    public static void main(String args[]){

        double degrees = 45.0;
        double radians = Math.toRadians(degrees);

        System.out.format("The value of pi is %.4f%n", Math.PI);
        System.out.format("The arc tangent of %.4f is %.4f degrees %n", Math.cos(radians), Math.toDegrees(Math.atan(Math.sin(radians))));

    }
}

Compiling the above program will output:

The value of pi is 3.1416
The arc tangent of 0.7071 is 35.2644 degrees
