Host Email Access

Hosting services should include a certain number of email accounts and email servers.

Email Accounts

Hosting solutions should be capable of providing an email account for everyone in the company.

Email address formats are as follows:

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

POP Email

POP stands for Post Office Protocol. POP is a standard client/server protocol used for sending and receiving emails.

Emails are received and stored on your internet server until you retrieve them using a client email program such as Outlook and Foxmail.

IMAP Email

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. IMAP is another standard protocol used for sending and receiving emails.

IMAP offers improvements over POP, allowing emails stored on an IMAP server to be accessed from multiple computers without transferring messages between them. POP is designed to support email access on a single computer.

Web-Based Email

Web-based email allows us to access emails through a web browser. Once logged into the email account via the web, you can send and receive emails. The ability to access emails from anywhere in the world is quite appealing.

Typical examples of web-based email include: Gmail and Hotmail.

Email Forwarding

Email forwarding allows us to have multiple email addresses.

With email forwarding, aliases can be set up for other email accounts:

For example:

Emails sent to [email protected] can be forwarded to [email protected].

Emails sent to [email protected] can be forwarded to [email protected].

Mailing Lists

Some servers offer mailing list functionality. This is a valuable feature if you wish to send emails to a large number of users.
